US warns Australia against joining treaty banning nuclear weapons

  1. 1. The relatively new treaty imposes a blanket ban on developing, testing, stockpiling, using or threatening to use nuclear weapons – or helping other countries to carry out such activities.
    2. The Australian government is in favour of banning nuclear weapons. The Australian prime minister, Anthony Albanese has described them as the most destructive, inhumane and indiscriminate weapons ever created.
    3. While the USA understands and shares the desire to advance nuclear disarmament goals, they do not support the treaty on the prohibition of nuclear weapons.

Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese has called them the most destructive, inhumane and indiscriminate weapons ever created.3.
